In other news, I think I had a first tonight, lighting my candles alone. Now I have a new understanding of why mom always sent gifts for the roommates - it means there are other people there. There was something horrifyingly painful about the experience, yet something really nice and comforting.

I too lit the candles alone. And I too find it difficult, but, I've been doing it for a while. The nice part is that I can hear other people's voices saying the prayers, in my head - it is the one time hearing voices in my head is okay! Even if it a silly little holiday that you don't love, there is a tradition in lighting the candles - and that's what feels so good. So, what gift did you open on your first night?
